In-Home Ligament Support Knee Braces (ACL, MCL, LCL, PCL)

A ligament injury can make the knee feel unreliable. You might feel shifting, buckling, or hesitation on stairs, uneven ground, or quick turns. The right ligament support knee brace helps by adding mechanical stability so the knee feels more controlled during movement.

Blustone Health provides mobile, in-home knee brace fitting across Greater Vancouver and the Lower Mainland. We measure, fit, and adjust Össur ligament knee braces so you get support that actually feels wearable in real life.

Who This Is For

This page is for people who want a brace that does more than “warm the knee.”

Ligament bracing is often a good fit if:

  • Your knee feels unstable after an ACL, MCL, LCL, or PCL injury
  • You are returning to activity and want more confidence during movement
  • You feel unstable on stairs, slopes, or during turning and pivoting
  • You want support for sport or work demands
  • You have tried a sleeve and it was not enough

If you are not sure what ligament is involved, that is normal. A bracing consult helps narrow down the best category of support.

Benefits of Knee Support:

  • Reduce Pain & Inflammation
  • Re-educate the Neuromuscular System
  • Promote Improved Circulation and Healing
  • Prevent Injury
  • Enhance Performance
  • Assist in Returning the Body to Homeostasis

What Ligament Bracing Does

Different ligaments control different directions of knee movement. A ligament brace is designed to help limit unwanted motion and add stability when the knee is loaded.

  • ACL support focuses on controlling forward movement of the shin relative to the thigh
  • PCL support focuses on controlling backward movement of the shin
  • MCL support helps reduce inward collapse forces at the knee
  • LCL support helps reduce outward forces at the knee

A hinge alone is not the whole story. The frame design, strap system, and fit are what make the brace feel stable instead of annoying.

What Ligament Bracing Is Commonly Used For:

  • Limiting unwanted knee motion after ACL injury to improve stability during activity
  • Supporting the inner knee after MCL injury, especially during side-to-side movement
  • Supporting the outer knee after LCL injury, particularly on uneven terrain
  • Supporting posterior stability after PCL injury, especially during stairs and loaded movement
  • Higher-demand stability for sport, training, or physical work
  • Helping the knee feel more secure during rehab and return-to-activity progressions

Why We Use Össur for Ligament Support

Össur has several brace categories that cover mild sprains through higher-demand ligament support. The advantage is not just the brace. It is the combination of product selection plus correct fitting and adjustment.

Higher-support ligament braces (CTi family)

Össur’s CTi knee braces are positioned as clinically proven ligament support with “total ligament support.” They describe specific stabilization points for ACL, MCL/LCL, and PCL support.
This category is commonly considered when you need more stability for sport, higher demand activity, or stronger instability patterns.

Moderate ligament support (Formfit Hinged Knee)

Össur describes the Formfit Hinged Knee as intended for mild to moderate strains, sprains, or ligament tears and that it provides stability.
This category can be a great fit when you want supportive stability without stepping straight into a high-end rigid frame.

Adjustable hinge support options (Rebound Knee)

Össur highlights comfort and breathability features for Rebound Knee and notes low profile hinges with extension and flexion stop kit options.
This can be useful when you want supportive bracing with adjustable motion control features.

How mobile bracing works

Our In-Home Ligament Bracing Process

1) Intake and Goals

We start with what matters: what movements feel unstable, what activities you want to return to, and what your knee has trouble trusting right now. We also review what you have tried before and what you did not like, such as slipping, bulk, pinching, or stiffness.

3) Brace Selection

We choose the brace category that fits your needs, such as hinged support versus higher-support ligament bracing. If you already have imaging or a doctor’s note, we can align the selection to that documentation.

5) Wear Guidance and Follow-Up Tweaks

You leave knowing how to put it on properly and how tight it should feel. If it rubs, slips, or feels off after real-world use, small adjustments often solve it. The goal is a brace you will actually wear.

2) Assessment and Measurement

Next we take key measurements and do a brief movement check. We look at how the knee behaves with walking, stairs, sit-to-stand, and gentle turning. This helps match you to the right category of bracing and the correct sizing.

4) Fit and Adjust

This is where results happen. We adjust strap tension, placement, and alignment so the brace feels stable without feeling like it is cutting into you. We test real movements, including walking and sitting, because comfort during real life is the deciding factor.

How Long Does It Take to Get the Brace?

  • Off-the-shelf braces: often same week if the right size is in stock
  • Custom braces: we usually quote 1–3 weeks from your fitting to receiving it (we will confirm the timeline when we place the order)

Once it arrives, we make sure it is properly fitted and adjusted for comfort and function.

FAQs

Here are the answers of our most frequently asked questions about mobile in-home ligament support knee braces

  • Do I need a doctor’s note or referral?

A doctor’s note or referral is preferred, and some insurance plans may require it for the brace to be claimable or reimbursed. If you do not have one yet, you can still book a consultation. We can tell you what your insurer typically asks for and what to request from your doctor.

  • Which brace do I need for ACL, MCL, LCL, or PCL?

It depends on how unstable the knee feels and what you want to do. Mild to moderate cases often do well with a hinged brace, while higher-demand activity or stronger instability may need a rigid frame ligament brace. We help you choose based on symptoms, goals, and fit.

  • Can a brace help me return to sport?

A brace can improve confidence and stability for many people, especially during cutting, pivoting, and uneven terrain. The best results come from selecting the correct brace category and fitting it properly, then using it alongside a return-to-activity plan.

    Book Now
  • Will the brace feel bulky?

Some ligament braces are more structured than sleeves. The tradeoff is stability. We aim to match you with the lowest bulk option that still gives you the support you need, then adjust it so it feels wearable.

    Book Now
  • What should I wear to the fitting?

Shorts are ideal. If you do not have shorts, wear comfortable clothing that allows access to the knee for fitting and adjustments.

    Book Now
  • What if the brace slips or rubs?

That is common with off-the-shelf bracing when fit and strap tension are not dialed in. Small changes usually fix it. Reach out and we will refine the fit.

    Book Now
  • Can you fit braces in condos or smaller spaces?

Yes. In-home fittings work well in condos and homes. If there are entry or parking instructions, share them when you book.

  • How quickly can I be seen?

Availability varies week to week. For the quickest response, call or text us directly.
